Lack Of Confidence Puts Ladies Last In League

Newmarket Ladies 1’s v’s St Neots Ladies 1’s: 5-1 win to St Neots.

Another painful defeat hit the ladies 1st team this week; their opposition were St Neots who are now 4th in the league table.

Newmarket began playing with a hint of optimism but as the rain began to fall so did the level of skill on both sides of the pitch. Newmarket found themselves on the back foot and as St Neots players and coaches strengthened in confidence and voice Town were unnerved allowing their opposition to flock the D and hit 3 shots into goal within quick succession.

The break was welcomed by Newmarket giving a chance for reflection. Encouraged by their fantastic travelling supporters and Captain, Newmarket showed a glimmer of fighting spirit and some progressive moves began to appear. Although after time, play was at deadlock between the teams and without any coaching support – Town were unable to make any tactical changes to unsettle their opposition who again took up the challenge, and in full flow put another 2 goals passed the Newmarket defence.

A consolation goal came for Town after a weaving move down the left with a shot deflecting off the keeper’s helmet into goal. The team felt that Newmarket had missed the opportunity to at least bag a point from the game and now find themselves at the bottom of the table.

Player of the match for some great gloves away from goal was Sue Bullimore who shared the honours with Louise Downs for her persistence in both defending and attacking.
