Newmarket Ladies II’s played Bury St Edmunds on Saturday and enjoyed a fine return to form to make sure they picked up a valuable 3 points to keep the title race alive.
Newmarket dominated from the start and were unfortunate not to score from the whistle, although Newmarket enjoyed much of the possession, they were kept from scoring by a Bury side that pulled everyone back into defence every time Newmarket got into the “D”.
The deadlock was broken 15 minutes into the game when Beth Wombwell fired home the first goal, Rebecca Swift, who had an outstanding game, shortly added a second. The third came from a short corner when after a deflection, Lydia Evans found the roof of the net. The fourth came again from a short corner and this time it was Rebecca who got her second goal of the game.
The second half was almost a mirror image of the first, Rebecca got a thoroughly deserved hat-trick, Beth got her second and Ruth Godden scored to make the final result 7 – 0 to Newmarket.
