Newmarket Ladies 3s vs Bourne Deeping L2 – HT 0-1 FT 1-1 Scorer Georgia Atherton
Newmarket were left wondering how they failed to come back from Deeping with out all 3 points. They dominated possession pushing forward from the first whistle, but were wasteful in front of goal. Midway through the half Deeping had what was probably their only real chance of the game and scored.
It was a frustrating game to watch as Deeping thwarted the Newmarket attackers throughout the game until late in the second half the ball fell to Georgia Atherton who drilled the ball beyond the keeper. Newmarket continued to push forward looking for a winner but unluckily no further goals were scored.
Newmarket should take many postives from the game, particularly in the way they dominated their opponent, but some shooting practice is a must on Tuesday.
Ely City 3’s v Newmarket Ladies 2’s. 0 – 20 win to Newmarket
Newmarket went into this game knowing it would be an easy game against Ely who was bottom of the league but didn’t expect it to be a goal fest it turned into. Newmarket started strong straight from the start pushing Ely back into there own half and this is where Ely stayed for the majority of the game. Newmarket passed the ball around superbly and Ely had no answer to Newmarket’s dominance and this quickly started the goals to flow. Cassie Ayms superb cross into the D to pick out Olivia Haste on the back post to calmly score the first goal. This started the onslaught of Ely’s goal with wave after wave of attacks creating more chances. Great work from Tracy Cockeril, Mel Podd, Clodie Rolph who was cutting out any release Ely was finding. Cassie Ayms became the queen of setups by endlessly putting the ball into the D for the forwards to slot home goals, Abbi Pass received a superb ball out wide to run down the wing and weaved her way into D to score a great solo effort. Newmarket went into half time 10-0 up so Newmarket captain and goalie decided to take herself off Leaving Stef Howard in charge of the defence and done a great job of marshalling players and stopping any attacks on the half way line. Beth Wombwell received the ball just inside the D to make a great turn towards goal and shoot into the top left hand corner. Newmarket’s skill and a great passing game has got them to the position they are in the league and even though Ely wasn’t a strong game they still put out a fantastic team effort. Credit has to go to Ely who didn’t give up despite being thrashed in a very one-sided game. Newmarket are away to Wisbech who are 3rd in the league which will be a much harder game but Newmarket are looking forward to the challenge and a win will secure their promotion with one game to go.
Goals from Beth Wombwell x 5, Abbi Pass x 5, Cassie Ayms x 1,Olivia Haste x 6. Hannah Kelly x 2 and Angel Fayers x 1. Player of match goes to Stef Howard for her solid work in defence. Nelly goes to Mel Podd for spectacular dive.
