Your club needs you to pick up a whistle and get umpiring.
Umpiring can be both rewarding and enjoyable. Whether you’re coming to the end of your playing days and want to remain an active part of the club or you’re 14 and are looking for a better understanding of the game, then umpiring is for you.
An increase in teams, whilst excellent for the club, has put extra strain on the existing pool of umpires and I am looking to recruit and qualify at least 7 new umpires by the end of next season.
What Newmarket offers its umpires:
Improved knowledge of the rules and regulations of the game;
The opportunity to develop yourself as an umpire to whatever level you wish;
Coaching and advice from already qualified umpires;
A course paid for by the club and your annual membership;
You can offset match fees against games umpired.
I would like to get you on the next available course, which is being held at Ely Hockey Club on Sunday 8th January 2017, from 9:00 till 16:30. There are both practical and theory elements to the course. Any budding umpire would have to complete an online rules test before attending, which can be found here: www.englandhockey.co.uk under officiate and volunteer, then umpiring, and finally umpire developers, assessors and coaches – click on the online test to complete.
The national governing body for hockey in England. Offers information, news, fixtures, results and tables.
It is clear that Newmarket has a small and committed pool of umpires, and I want to spread umpiring across a much larger pool and also offer the opportunity for you and the existing umpires to develop and improve the quality of your umpiring to whatever level you want to achieve.
Please can I have all replies back by the end of Sunday 6th November – to email@example.com
The club will pay for you to go on this course on the proviso that you complete your assessment game by the end of the 17/18 season. With this expectation the club may seek to be reimbursed should you not make yourself available for practice games and assessment.
