Newmarket took 47 juniors away with them to St Neots in the different age groups to compete against local clubs Ely and St Neots.
The U8s – Newmarket fielded two teams at this age group with most being their first experience of competitive hockey – lots of goals were scored, enthusiasm and enjoyment on display from all. We look forward to the future tournaments with this age group to see how much they have developed in confidence and skills.
The U10s – Newmarket fielded two teams and both teams won two games and lost one. With many of the teams just moving up from the U8 age group they needed to adapt to the increase in pitch size but clearly they were doing so well. Again lots of goals were scored and good team play evident. I look forward to the rest of the season watching them grow.
The U13 Girls – Newmarket took two teams and even loaned a few players to support other teams to ensure everyone enjoyed and played as much hockey as possible. The first game was tough with Newmarket 1 playing Newmarket 2s both squads showing lots of individual skills but needing more game time to work better as a team to help them be more successful. The teams played with promise, ambition and spirit with lots of things to work on for the future. A special mention to the GK who made her debut in goal showing great promise as this was her first time in full kit.
The U13 Boys – played strongly without a GK and played with great potential securing their first wins of the new season – with one junior scoring four of the goals. The team collectively show promise for the rest of the season under the watchful eye of their lead coach Andy Baker.
Thank you to Sarah McGowan and Ellie Chapman for coming along to umpire the U13 Girls and then Boys. I hope they enjoyed themselves and gained some valuable experience.
