Ladies 1st XI

Spalding Ladies 1 V 4 Newmarket Ladies

We bravely trekked to Spalding in the fog, and yet played in unseasonably warm weather with 3 regular players unavailable and one delayed by an hour. Those called to the cavalry, Vicky Benedikz, Rebecca Alexander and Maisy Swann all did stirling work and did more than plug the holes, they created opportunities but the score was 0-0 at half time.

Faye asked for short corners to be won but our first 2 goals came from Maisy being on post with deft touches for well weighted balls fed in by Charlotte Redden and then Zoë Bailey. Lucie Swann had a shot on goal stopped by defenders feet. Faye converted the penalty flick.

Spalding refused to give up, they had more attacks in 2nd half, Georgia Atherton, playing in goal, was forced to come to top circle to slide and save a breakaway attack but they kept at us and did eventually prise the ball over the line behind her.

Just before full-time, Lucie scored our 4th and we were very pleased to secure a win over the team who started the day top of the table.

Next week we are at home for local derby v Ely 1 at 1.15
