To recap on the last three weeks: 9th Oct – Week 4: Men’s 1s won 7-0 against Wisbech T. 4s storming ahead in the early days. Ladies’ 2s picked up a valuable point and drew 1-1 versus Haverill 2s. Ladies’ 1s lost 1-4 against Shefford & Sandy 1s. Ladies’ 3s did not play. 16th Oct – Week 5: Men’s 1s won 7-2 against C. City 5s again claiming TOTW. With the Ladies II’s current form, Newmarket travelled to Bury on Saturday high on confidence and eager to remain 2nd in the League. From the whistle, they pressurised the Bury defence with a salvo of shots into the D, their first penalty corner came after 10 minutes which was fired home by Lydia Evans. Nemwarket Ladies 1st Team v’s Peterborough Ladies 2nd Team: 4-0 win to Newmarket A fast flowing game saw a change of form for the ladies first team as they produced a smooth victory against Peterborough 2nd team. Newmarket started their 4th game of the season in division 5NW of the east hockey league looking to continue their excellent start to the season against one of their title challengers. Newmarket started with the same starting line up as last week and immediately took the game to Cambridge City 5’s. Newmarket 1’s v’s Shefford & Sandy 1’s: 4-1 win to Shefford & Sandy Travelling away to Shefford and Sandy; Newmarket depleted in numbers due to sickness knew a tough challenge lay ahead of them. Newmarket Ladies 2’s – Match Report – Sat 2nd October Newmarket Ladies 2s 2 Sudbury Ladies 4s 1 With Newmarket’s first two games being cancelled, the ladies were keen to get their first league game underway. Amazingly, all four teams won this weekend for the first time in what seems like ages. Congratulations to all. The TOTW award for Round 3 goes to the men’s 1s as they recorded a 3-0 victory.
