East League Hockey Update

21/09/2017 Respect of Umpires – Think about it please: As this weekend is the first weekend of the new season it is appropriate to issue a reminder to all clubs and players of their conduct towards umpires. Feedback from the ERHUA, County HUA’s and club umpires from last season is that dissent was at an all time high both from players and from the sidelines. Put simply this has got to stop. We all know that player within our team who from the first whistle chats to the umpire but we never tell them to be quiet and we all know […]

Umpiring Talk with Barry Anderson

Posted Posted in Club News, Umpires

We have invited Barry Anderson (Level 3 National League Pool Umpire, Suffolk Pool Umpire) to come to talk about umpiring but using player management as his main topic, Last season we had a number of incidents that could, with better use of player management, have been nipped in the bud and steered the game down a different route reducing the need for more serious intervention. As we’re inviting Barry down to Newmarket as a club, we are looking at all captains, possibly vice captains and umpires to attend. Date: Friday 8th September Venue: The Racing Centre (Astley Club) Time: 7-8pm […]

12/04/2017 East League Management Committee: As you will be aware the East League Management Committee is made up of hockey people of various backgrounds, playing and officiating standards. Most importantly they are volunteers who allow more than 5000 people to play and enjoy League hockey each week during the League season. If you are able to spare a little time to help develop and take forwards our League we would love to hear from you. Similarly, if you do not like the way the League is run and want to help change what you see as the bad bits now […]

Newmarket Umpire Posts

The AGM will be coming up and if anyone wants to take on the role of ULO then I will be happy to pass the role on. Junior Hockey is running from 6-7pm in June and July. They will be playing games in their age groups so umpires would be appreciated. Summer League Hockey will run on the same evening as the juniors and umpires are usually picked from the teams not playing – but it is good experience. Update from Newmarket Hockey Club ULO We have an opportunity for support/coaching with Barry Anderson (to be arranged) in September. I […]
