Newmarket travelled to Norwich knowing how crucial a win was needed. The students were 3 points behind Newmarket, but with 2 games in hand, and their form was picking up. Both teams were hungry for the rewards resulting in a fiery game of tension and determination.

The students capitalised on a slow starting Newmarket with two early goals. Luck was on the home team's side as a strike somehow squeezed past step in keeper Steve Freed's left foot and rolled into the goal before the defence could react. UEA's second goal resulted from a well rehearsed short corner routine that drove inside the left post.

Despite the early set back Newmarket pushed forward with Simon Greenwood overlapping with Kieran Drane and Adam Gallop down the right of the pitch. David Badcock and Chris Jefferson played outstanding games dominating the middle of the park.

The return of forward Jeremy linked well with Mark Pears and in the second half Newmarket controlled possession and outplayed UEA on the right wing. Newmarket's goal came from open play with Mark Pears driving through the opponents defence to release Jeremy who calmly slotted the ball past the keeper.

Newmarket maintained pressure with UEA resorting to the long ball to release their forwards, but despite good work across the pitch Newmarket failed to earn the point that they deserved.

Newmarket now have a lot of work to do and face Lowestoft Railway at Nowton Park this coming Saturday at 2.00. With Lowestoft's recent form, and Newmarket's bad memories from the away fixture, this looks like another tough test for Newmarket who desperately need the points from this game.
