Newmarket knew they had their work cut out against League leaders
Lowestoft Railway in the Printwize League division 5NE clash on
Saturday. The travellers were clear top of the league by 5 points
and had disposed of Norwich Union, also pushing for promotion 4-0
the week before.
Newmarket faced losing a number of players due to
Valentines Day including midfield duo Chris Jefferson and Dave
Badcock. However home specialist Greg Cummins and right half Adam
Gallop moved into the middle of the park to dominate play.
Newmarket started with a game plan to control the
centre of the park and play relatively deep, due to the old grass
style of hockey that Lowestoft still inherit which has seen them
through to the top spot.
Going forward Newmarket made use of both wings,
pulling the opposition out of position to strengthen each point of
attack. Kieran Drane and Magnus Magnuson were influential in piling
pressure down both sides, enabling Jeremy to get three of the home
team's goals.
Lowestoft's chances were limited compared to
Newmarket's, who should have made more of a number of chances that
fell to the forward pair; including three goals that were
disallowed.
Anything that the visitors tried to push through
were met by defensive stalwart Paul Marston who was aided by Sean
Watts and Duncan Freed, the latter moving to right back to fill in
for the missing pace of Simon Greenwood.
Newmarket cannot afford to drop anymore points
this season if they are to go up. They face Bury this coming
Saturday at 3pm a The West Suffolk College Sports Centre.
