Newmarket furthered their promotion chances with a 3-0 victory against Bury in the Printwize League division 5NE local clash. This puts Newmarket on top of the table by a single point ahead of league rivals Lowestoft Railway who have a game in hand. Other promotion hopefuls UEA lost to Pelicans at the weekend to leave them trailing by 6 points, but with 3 games in hand. UEA and Railway meet on Saturday, which could decide Newmarket's fate.

Newmarket dominated the home team on Saturday in all aspects of play. Greg Cummins and Chris Jefferson were influential in the middle of the field that enabled Jeremy Sallis to run rings round the Bury Centre back pairing. With endless energy he drifted through untouched to score the 3 goals that secured Newmarket the vital points. A forth goal was denied Sallis as the umpire believed that the ball did not connect with his stick in the ?D? as it was pushed through by Cummins.

The score resided as 2-0 at half time, and a confident Newmarket relaxed and displayed the style of hockey that has been encouraged through training sessions conducted by coach Colin Seakins. Kieran Drane, Simon Greenwood and Adam Gallop progressed well down the right side of the pitch utilising the space provided by the overlap with determining effect.

Bury's attacks were meet with Newmarket's defiant defence with centre back Paul Marston standing strong. Sean Watts and Simon Greenwood ensured that nothing manufactured down either of the wings.

Newmarket continues their promotion chase as they face Gorleston at home at Nowton Park. Gorleston have been known to throw a few surprises in previous games within the league.
