Newmarket made the trip to Norwich on Saturday to face UEA II in the
Men East League Division 4NE with a depleted squad. The team
suffered from a number of late withdrawals to leave them with no
bench support to play the fit young students.
The visitors knew they had their work cut out, as UEA II came down a
league last year, and Newmarket had only gained promotion the season
before. They suffered in the first half by giving the home side too
much respect and UEA capitalised on an early strike to put them 1-0
up with a finely taken lifted shot.
Despite efforts to release the ball to front men Mark 'Arsenal'
Pears and Barney Bowens UEA were mainly camped in Newmarket's half,
utilising space that the fitter side created.
Another goal came from a well worked short corner routine, and the
third followed later from a deflected cross from the right hand side
- All goals coming in the first half.
Newmarket made changes in the second half, and although limited the
furious attacks, they were not able to pull anything back from a
very
good side.
Newmarket need to take advantage this week from Lowestoft Railway,
promoted alongside Newmarket, pushback is 12.00 at W.S.C. in Bury.
