Newmarket
made their travels to the Norfolk town of Wisbech
with a squad of 14 for their fourth league game of the season.
Newmarket where full of confidence from the
whistle and within 5 minutes of play right half Adam Gallop scored
from a fast passing attack from the midfield.
The
yellow and blues made great use of the pitch, passing through
Wisbech like a hot knife through butter. With
most of the play focused on the ball skills of Jefferson and Harris
in the centre of the field, the yellow and blues kept the pressure
on the Wisbech defence, which quickly
broke to make way for top goal scorer Dawson to make it two for
Newmarket. Wisbech
began to lose their stride when Dawson ran half the pitch to put the
ball over the keepers left shoulder for his second goal of the game.
Newmarket’s
hunger for more goals was satisfied with the fourth goal coming from
an unstoppable hit from Chris Jefferson, and the fifth with Kieran
Drane and Duncan Freed making an attacking run
which made way for Barney Bowen to put it away.
With
Newmarket leading by five goals at half time
captain Neil Badcock could only give
praise to the team, who could not wait to start the second half.
The
home team came out in the second half with all guns blazing, but
defenders Greenwood and Atkinson helped halt most of their efforts
along with Freed, Badcock and keeper Dan
Brown.
Newmarket
quickly found their rhythm and strikers Pears and Bell had plenty of
chances to increase the score, but only found the posts and wide
shots. Josh Dawson remained patient, which was rewarded with another
goal and his second hat-trick of the season.
With
only ten minutes to go the game slowed down for Newmarket,
giving Wisbech more space to push up the
pitch, but a loose ball fell to Gallop on the half way line. Making
a great darting run down the wing passing two defenders, Gallop put
in an inch perfect cross to Dawson who made it 7-0, taking him to an
impressive seven goals in four games.
