After losing a pre season friendly to Cambridge City, Newmarket were out to redeem themselves.

Starting at a lightning pace, Newmarket stole the Cambridge push back and dominated play. Using their method of switching the ball with short passing, Town eased passed their opponents and had many a shot on goal but did not capitalise in the first half.

There was a small passage of play where Cambridge began to find some gaps towards goal which was slightly unnerving for the defence, but Sue Bullimore was on hand to protect the Newmarket goal.

Lydia Fison and Sarah Haird won joint players of the match and commanded the midfield with superb tackling.

Claire McDonnell scored her first competitive goal of the season for Town with a reverse stick flick shot and five minutes later Di Thomas followed suit and scored in the same fashion. Tracy Cockerill picked up a loose ball from a short corner play and ploughed it into the goal in fine style.

There was no doubting Newmarket's strength and confidence for the last part of the game and they remained victorious.
