The ladies squad
looked a little asleep at the start of their away game against March.
Further developing their possessional game; Town created some
wonderful flowing movements that March found hard to track. This
created space for Lydia Fison to drive into the D and release a shot
which Beth Wombwell skilfully glanced passed the keeper to open the
scoring for Town.
March desperate to deter Newmarket made panicked errors. This
presented Louise Downs with a penalty flick which she coolly
converted.
The second half continued with a similar style of play and Newmarket
stepped up a gear and became more vocal. Town had about ninety percent
possession and constantly packed the D forcing March to once more make
rash tackles. Town's penalty specialist Louise Downs was called upon
again to swiftly put away two more penalties and she then went on to
score from a thunderous shot later in the game which gave her a total
of four goals and the player of the match honour.
Di Thomas and Claire McDonnell each got a goal from reverse stick
shots as seems to have become trademark, but March managed to unhinge
Town and released a quick free hit that found a waiting striker who
pushed the ball elatedly around keeper Sue Bullimore.
The ladies find themselves fighting at the top of the league table
recording straight wins so far this season.
