Nap hand for Town
With Paul Young back in the side at right back,
Newmarket dominated this Norwich Union East League Division Two
North match from the start.
They were awarded numerous corners and opened the
scoring through Greg Cummins following one of them. When Lee Blades'
shot was blocked he unselfishly passed to "Benny" Bennett to knock
in the rebound for Newmarket's second goal.
A passing movement between Adrian Gurnell and
Bennett ended with Bennett pulling the ball from the backline for
Gurnell to net with a first time shot.
Another short corner led to the fourth goal
scored by Harry Mangell after the 'keeper had saved Blades' shot.
Newmarket could only add one further goal after the break. Bennett
charged in from the right to shoot through the goalkeeper's legs.
Tempers frayed and UEA were rightly reduced to
ten men. There were good performances from Newmarket's Roger Wise
and young Dave Badcock.
Joint captain Harry Mangell was inspirational but
the side will welcome back Bob Townson this weekend following
injury.
