Champions very much on
target for 100 goals!
Newmarket, crowned champions of Crowe Division 5NW only last week
had to grind out a win in a scrappy game, where they only had 10
men, due to the absence of 5 regular first team squad members.
Nevertheless, they now only need 5 more goals in 3 remaining game
for that 100 target to be achieved.
The first half, started in some controversy over the official time
for the game. Newmarket fought well using a 3-3-3 system, with the
increasingly reliable John Sutherland in goal. Magnusson, Wilson
Junior and Matt Holden, with just one reverse, meant Newmarket went
into the break 3-1 ahead.
Better was to come as they piled on the pressure against a
disorganised Boston team, with Captain Greg Cummins returning after
a week away inspirational, scoring 2 more and proving pivotal, ably
assisted by Dave Badcock. The final goal came from Wilson Junior.
Young Barry Winters played a full game and performed with great
credit. This was not a vintage performance, but well fought and well
earned.
Next week sees Newmarket at home to local rivals Cambridge City IV.
