Spalding 2nd 1 Newmarket 1st 5.

Newmarket continued their 100% start to the season with a dominant display against mid table Spalding.

Skipper Wilson had to shuffle his pack with talisman Christopher Legett unavailable. By moving Oliver Wade into the middle of the park the Newmarket starting line up had a very attacking feel to it.

The early exchanges were cagy with Spalding defending deep as they tried to gauge the degree of threat posed by their table topping visitors.

Newmarket were dominant both in terms of possession and territory but lacked their cutting edge of the previous week.

The deadlock was eventually broken by Josh Dawson who quickly added a second with a clever deflection into the far corner.

Alex Andreaou rifled in a 3rd from a short corner.

Despite the score line Captain Will Wilson demanded more from his charges in the second half. The front line of Pears, Holden, Dawson and Skelton did not disappoint as their pace and movement carved Spalding apart time, and time again.

It was Spalding however that scored next. A fine through pass caught Harrington napping and the Spalding forward slotted home neatly under the outstretched arm of keeper Routs.

Any further forages into the Newmarket half were quickly snubbed out by the ever reliable Newnes, Balding and Worrall.

Holden capped a man of the match performance with a neatly taken 4th before Skipper Wilson flicked home from one of Newmarket countless short corners.

This was a steady performance on a tricky pitch from the Newmarket side who already looked like champions elect.
