*Parking Update*

Following our meeting earlier today with Leisure Centre Management, we wanted to give you an update:

Perhaps the single most important consideration to begin with is that from tomorrow, January 10th, the parking restrictions will be enforced. This means parking in designated bays during enforcement hours and observing the time restrictions. Monitoring will be done by someone similar to a Traffic Warden. They made the point that parking is being abused, not by leisure centre users but by others working and shopping in town for example.

However, they are very conscious of the fact that many of their customers (ourselves included as we are their second largest customer) are also going to be inconvenienced which is not their intent. They took note of specific circumstances where the parking restrictions would present problems for hockey. We specified parking while travelling to away matches, umpires that may have more than one game to officiate, members that may umpire a game and play a match, people that want to play a match and watch an earlier or later match plus junior tournaments.  They asked that we pass on any other thoughts we have regarding the impact of these new parking restrictions. With this in mind, if you have any thoughts of your own that we have not covered, then please email Peter Booth directly at peter_k_booth@btinternet.com so we can collate and pass on a comprehensive list of issues as we see them.

We were advised that for the first few weeks they will be seeking feedback from customers and collating all the issues being raised. Once they have this data they will then start to consider what alternative steps or processes might be put in place to mitigate the problems identified. We made it clear that we are keen to find such alternatives and we will continue to press for exemptions so that we can continue to use the parking while enjoying our sport, which includes watching games and travelling to away matches. We will let you know of any further developments, but from tomorrow, please park carefully!

As an aside, they also informed us of some of the developments concerning the new Aldi store being built next door. In particular there will be new, temporary traffic controls put in place on Exning Road, directly outside the entrance to the Leisure Centre site from January 20th . This will lead to delays and they expect Exning Road will be particularly busy at times. On leaving the site, there will be a diversion in place that forces a left turn onto Exning Road; turning right towards town will not be an option. Please bear this in mind when travelling to and from the Leisure Centre and allow extra time for your journey.
