About Us

Newmarket Hockey Club was founded in 1948 and is most definitely a club on the rise. Calling Newmarket Leisure Centre their home, the Blue & Yellow Machine boasts seven senior teams which turn out across a variety of divisions in East Anglia.

The club also have a proud tradition of a modest-sized but thriving junior section, and many of the players that have come through the ranks now play for the senior sides or in higher leagues elsewhere.

The Club is opposed all forms of discrimination and will actively encourage, promote and develop hockey amongst all sections of the community it serves, whilst ensuring that good manners and courtesy prevail towards the opposition, umpires and other officials before, during and after all matches.

Members of the NHC family also enjoy an active social scene, with players from both men’s and ladies’ sections meeting up regularly for curry nights, Saturday socials and other informal events. Details of these are shared by the Social Secretary via our social media accounts, club mailing list and on the website. Our events include:

  • Senior Curry Night
  • Newmarket Races with Family Picnic
  • Chairman’s Day (Senior & Junior games for members past & present)
  • Annual Christmas Dinner & Fancy Dress Party
  • ‘Last Saturday of the Month’ themed socials
  • Annual Summer Tours – Bognor Regis, Wisbech & Harleston Magpies to name but a few
  • Race Night Fundraising
  • Trip to Alton Towers
  • Paintballing
  • We have close links to East Grinstead HC, so organise trips to see National League matches
  • Hawaiian Night
  • Junior parties & BBQs
  • End of Season ‘Black Tie’ Dinner & Presentation Evening
