Return to Hockey

Posted Posted in Club News

Your Committee have been working tirelessly in the background as we try to navigate Covid-19, keen to return to hockey, but mindful of England Hockey (EH) and Government guidance and requirements. The good news is that we return to hockey in earnest next week, but we must all realise that things won’t be the same.  The first thing to appreciate is that ALL players MUST complete an Individual Consent Form BEFORE they can return to Hockey of any kind. This is a requirement of EH who, along with the Club, will keep a copy of all completed forms. This form needs […]

A tough match but good result for NHC L2’s, a beautiful lifted ball from Faye in the first half found the end of Veronica’s stick to smash it into the back board of Shefford and Sandy’s goal. Some lovely passing between Sarah and Robyn along the right wing managed to bring Robyn up into the attacking 23 with a great pass into the D where Josie was on P spot to receive and gladly sweep it into the goal. Shefford and Sandy were quickly back before half time to have a short corner and a goal.  Feeling tired NHC were given […]

Ladies 2s Match Report 01.02.2020

In a match described by one supporter as “frustrating” league leaders went one goal down to third from bottom Royston at the pitch that geography forgot. The slow pace of the game did indeed frustrate Newmarket, slowness seemed to seep up from the astro turf and make everyone lethargic and lack lustre. It was certainly not our best performance. An equalising goal was plucked from the air, quite literally by Georgia Atherton as Faye Andreou’s reverse stick shot caught a defender’s stick to go high and wide and was deftly redirected across the goal line to salvage a point. Although […]

Newmarket 2s set out to face St Ives 4s. From a wonderful 2-0 against their 3s last week. The girls had high hopes for this game. As soon as the starting whistle was blown it was clear Newmarket had full control of the game, made evident when Georgia Atherton scored in the first two minutes. From that point Newmarket were camped in the opposition’s half, persistent pressure and penetration of the opposition’s D bought another shortly after. Sarah McGowan and our MOM Robyn Henry-Jones worked as Salt and pepper, Batman and Robyn, bread and butter, fish and chips, a formidable combination on […]

15.30 pushback in st Ives to meet their Ladies 3s. The match was not as easy for us as the last time we met. A great match for spectators with play across and long, both teams playing their formations well and eager for the ball. St Ives held us to 0-0 at halftime. All three forwards sent balls searing past wrong sides of the posts  and Faye Andreou hit the post. Georgia Atherton broke the deadlock to give Newmarket the upper hand. And shortly after, Ellie Chapman pulled the best move of the game, intercepting the ball at halfway line, carrying […]

*Parking Update*

Posted Posted in Club News

Following our meeting earlier today with Leisure Centre Management, we wanted to give you an update: Perhaps the single most important consideration to begin with is that from tomorrow, January 10th, the parking restrictions will be enforced. This means parking in designated bays during enforcement hours and observing the time restrictions. Monitoring will be done by someone similar to a Traffic Warden. They made the point that parking is being abused, not by leisure centre users but by others working and shopping in town for example. However, they are very conscious of the fact that many of their customers (ourselves included as we […]

Newmarket 1st XI 4 – 0 Norwich City 4th XI Newmarket barely made it out of third gear as they comfortably beat Norwich 4-0 to compliment their early season form. It was a low-key start for the opening 10 minutes, with the home side having the first sights at goal, as Felix Allen slipped the ball through to Josh Dawson to put just wide. Felix was involved again a few minutes later, this time setting up Alex Andreou but he dragged his shot just wide of the far post. And for all their early efforts, Newmarket took the lead. A […]

Ipswich II’s 2 – 3 Newmarket I’s23/11/2019 Goalscorers: Donald x 2, Dawson Newmarket escaped Ipswich with a  dramatic 3-2 victory thanks to a late Simon Donald strike that maintained their healthy form near the top of the Division 3NE.Ipswich started really well and Newmarket hung on for the first 10 minutes. And it was the hosts who took the lead through a penalty corner from a deliberate Harrington foot, a firm strike from slip left into the bottom right corner. Newmarket grew into the game, and drew a couple of good saves from the Ipswich keeper. Ipswich threw some dangerous […]
