England Hockey are asking for comment on their resolution update from their 2018 AGM. Click here to view the document. If you have any thoughts, please ensure they are sent to our committee in time for the next meeting on 8th October.
Are you interested in getting involved in coaching? Do you enjoy working with children/juniors? Can you spare an hour on Sunday mornings? Do you need to do some volunteering as part of your DofE award or sports course?
Then your hockey club needs YOU!!!
We are on the lookout for volunteers to help with coaching the junior teams on Sunday mornings. U8’s and U10s train from 10-11 and U14s from 11-12. If you could help with one or both sessions and were available every other week, once a month, just for tournaments or even every week then we would be delighted to have you involved. There is more information about the junior section on the club website here.
If you can give some time to help or would like to know more then please get in touch with Junior Coordinator, Claire McDonnell. The first junior session of the 2018-19 season will take place on Sunday 16th September.
For anyone interested we will also be hosting an England Hockey workshop called ‘Engaging Games for Children’ at the club on Sunday 7th October 1-4pm. The cost of the workshop is £48 but the committee have agreed to fund this for anyone helping with coaching so it wouldn’t cost a thing.
The workshop is designed for coaches/leaders/helpers that:
- Deliver to children in any environment (clubs, schools, etc.)
- Want for practical and up to date games to deliver to their players
- Need ideas on how to coach games rather than basic drills
- Want to share ideas and learn from other coaches
If you would like more information or would like to attend please get in touch as soon as possible so that we can book you a place. The deadline for bookings is Thursday 27th September or when the workshop is full. Places are first come first served and only secure when booked and paid for online. Participants must be 16 years + to attend.
Newmarket Hockey Club bids you a very warm welcome to the 2018/19 season!!
Training is well under way for both the mens and the ladies sections. Please see the website for details of the changes to training, and we look forward to seeing you down there.
It’s now time for the boring paper-work and fees bit.
Please can all members, new and returning, complete a membership form. This can be down-loaded from the club website: Membership Form
We must have a form for every player, new and returning, each year for insurance purposes, and to confirm that we have up to date emergency contact details on file for you. You can scan or take a pic of your completed form and email it to me here, or return it to me with your subs. I will bring some forms down with me to the training sessions. Active non-players are also required to complete a form each year, eg: Umpires and Coaches
Your subs come to me, in an envelope with your name on it please. Subs must be paid by the 30th September, and you cannot play for the club after this date, unless you have spoken to me directly.
Cash or Cheques payable to ‘Newmarket Hockey Club’.
- Seniors (18 and over) £100.00
- Student (Over 18 and in full time education) £75.00
- Juniors (Aged 13 to U18 yrs) £55.00
Students: Must provide a copy of their current student card to validate the reduced fees.
Goalkeepers: Active Goalkeepers who provide their own complete goalkeeping kit will be exempt from subscription for the year, at the Club’s discretion.
New Players: All new players have 4 weeks to pay the relevant subscriptions, but cannot play league games until they have joined the Club.
New members who wish to play in the men’s or women’s teams will also be subject to a one-time sponsorship subsidised fee of £40 to cover the cost of kit. This amount should be added to the total subs fee due. To order kit, please complete the kit form from the membership page of the Club website, and get this to Faye.
Players who do not pay their subscriptions on time will be subject to an additional £20 fee and will not be able to play for the club or train. We therefore urge all members to help us by paying on time. Seniors who wish to attend training on a regular basis but not play matches are still required to pay the full subscription fee.
I will at Training every week, but will not be at the ladies 1s and 2s evenings. If those envelopes could please be handed to Di or Zoe for me.
If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to come and speak to me, message me or email me here.
Thanks and all the best for a cracking season!!

I am writing with further details of Junior Summer League which will run for 6 weeks starting on Wednesday 6th June through to Wednesday 11th July from 6-7pm each week.
The idea of summer hockey is to give the youngsters as much game time as possible so we aim to play lots of small games each week and to make it as enjoyable as possible.
As is the same with the usual training sessions, they will need to have shin pads and a gum shield and if owned, bring their hockey stick. If not then there are sticks which we can provide for them to use during the session.
To compensate for the Sunday morning training sessions that we had to cancel throughout the winter season due to the pitch being unplayable we are offering all fully paid up junior members summer hockey for FREE this year.
For any non-members or anyone new to the club the cost of summer league is £12 per child, which is payable at the first session. This is £12 for the whole six weeks. This can be paid in either cash or by cheque made payable to ‘Newmarket Hockey Club’ preferably in an envelope with the child’s name on it for convenience.
For any parents/adults that might fancy some social summer hockey there is also an adult mixed summer league which takes place from 7-9pm on the same dates. For more info on this please contact Mel Podd email@example.com
For all those that have been missing hockey, Summer League 2018 is starting on Wednesday 6th June at 7pm, running for 6 weeks.
If you would like to take part, please email Mel Podd or get in touch via Facebook etc.
Full details to follow, so watch this space.

Dates for the 2018-19 season: Following last nights League Management Committee meeting the following dates are proposed for next season, with the season starting 22nd September until 8th December, then the second half of the season running 12th January to 23rd March, with the 16th February acting as a slip date. We have also received a request from clubs with teams in small team divisions to have their season start on the first day of the season so that less games are exposed to bad weather in December. Traditionally we have started them later to allow clubs memberships to settle following summer sports/harvest/etc). If you have any views on either the proposed season dates or the proposal to bring the date for small team divisions forward please do let League Secretary or your respective League Managers know.
