Newmarket Hockey Club won the Braintree Mixed 7-a-side Tournament last weekend. Drawing their first game, the team tasted defeat in their second but subsequently went on an epic run of form and took maximum points from their next seven matches, beating hot favourites Chelmsford 2-1 and finally clinching the trophy in dramatic fashion on goal difference.
The squad: Dan ‘Mr Brown’ Brown, Di ‘Lady Di’ Farrell-Thomas, Grace ‘MFS’ Evans, Josh ‘J 2 the D’ Dawson, Jordan ‘Zee German One’ Newnes, Ollie ‘I’ve Played Prem B’ Wade, James ‘Tap Water’ Atkinson, Lydia ‘Lydj Meister’ Evans, Hayley ‘#nofilter’ Stoneman, Minnie ‘Mrs Brown’ Eve.
Starting on Tuesday 11th July at 7:30pm, and running for 8 weeks, we will be offering pre-season fitness sessions for all senior hockey players to ensure that all NHC teams are in the best shape possible heading into the new season.
This year is an exciting & important year for both the men & ladies, and so it goes without saying, that anyone already playing in the 1st Teams, or is pushing to be there, should try and make all the sessions, or at least as many as possible.
However, as mentioned above, ALL senior players are welcome to come along.
There will be a small charge for the entire 8 week fitness session, which will hopefully be in the region of £5.00, depending on numbers.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am pleased to attach the following to enable you to order any new playing kit you would like for the upcoming 2017/18 season.

We are very pleased to announce that men’s pre-season training for the 2016/17 campaign will begin on Wednesday 10th August, this coming Wednesday. Training will run from 19:00 – 20:30. This year we are fielding three men’s teams, providing game time for everyone and more competitive selection for the 1st and 2nd XIs. Anyone is welcome to attend and we hope to see a great turn out as we prepare our skills and fitness for the coming months.
Newmarket Hockey Club are very proud of goalkeeper Martin McCourt who is flying off to Australia on Saturday 26th March to represent Scotland at the Over 50’s Hockey World Cup.
Martin came out of retirement after a 15 year absence in January 2014, answering an SOS from Newmarket coach Nic Thorpe when Newmarket suffered an injury to their first choice keeper and the reserve keeper’s work commitments changed.
Since his return, Martin has helped Newmarket stabilise themselves in the league, with the first team finishing fourth in the last two seasons, and has represented Scotland at the European Championships. Now his children have grown up, he has the time he felt he wasn’t able to commit to the game when they were much younger and feels much better for being part of a social hockey club!
Next season, the club will be adding a third men’s team in the league. Newmarket will then have teams in divisions 3, 5 & 7 and will be able to offer a competitive level of hockey to those of all abilities, be they juniors just beginning to make their way in the game, or adults returning after a break similar to Martin! For more information, please see the club website at http://www.newmarkethockeyclub.com/.

Alas, tonight’s training session has also gone the way of the Ladies’ one yesterday and we have had to call it off due to the pitch being frozen and thus unsafe to play on.
