Newmarket Ladies 3’s Win Again

Ladies 3’s v Cambridge South: 1-0 to Newmarket

The 3’s faced the Cambridge South ladies this weekend and came away with the only win in the club with a 1-0 score line, scored by Hannah Fox in the first half.

The whole team pushed out the opposition side well, meaning the keeper, Georgia Atherton, only had one save to make and was practically not needed most the game!

A few moments allowed the newly positioned Centre Back, Phoebe Peacock,  to try her hand without her usual partner supporting her. Rebecca Barnes (Man of the Match) was a solid defender and many of their attacks failed to get past the 23 line. With Janie Harrington and Mel Podd switching with Helen Hansgate (C) to complete the back 4 line up.

The mid field made some good work trying to keep the game moving forwards and help the attacks continue to pressure the defence. The rest of the team consisted of Hannah Kelly, Sophie Bell, Rachel Hogg, Hannah Fox, Bea Jones and Charlotte Abbersteen.
Strong tackles, good teamwork, communication and good use of ability all meant that the forwards and midfielders had the whole game in hand.
An impressive game and a deserved result for the upcoming 3’s!

Framlingham Ladies 1’s v Newmarket Ladies 1’s: 5-0 win to Framlingham.

Newmarket ladies 1’s suffered a bitter defeat at the hands of Framlingham Ladies 1’s who are towards the bottom of the table. The home side used simple set plays to undo Town – scoring from 4 short corners and the final goal through a top D strike. Newmarket were confident going in to the match as their opposition had failed to win many points over the season so far. However Town initially looked very strong but lost control of the game as they started to play adapting to Framlingham’s style. They scored 3 goals in the first half and although Newmarket looked stronger in the second half they failed to get the ball over the line.

A piece of good news however is that after contesting the 5-5 result against Ipswich Ladies 3 after hearing they had ‘illegal’ players in their squad-Town were awarded a 5-0 win taking them to 5th in the league table, well out of the relegation zone. A result that will surely have major consequences come the end of the season.
