Men’s 3rd Team Report

The M3s kicked off their season with a 1v5 defeat to one of the league favourites. The size of the defeat was harsh on us as we dominated the first 25 minutes, but failed to get the ball in the back of the net. Peter Booth bagged his first of the season in the second half and there was plenty of good play going forward for Newmarket to build on.

Ladies’ 3rd Team Report

The ladies set off for their first match of the season in high spirits. The game was heavily dominated by Newmarket however goals were hard to come by despite plenty of opportunities and strikes taken. Half time saw the score still at 0-0. The second half started as the first, with capt Mel Podd starting to get a little concerned with the teams inability to put a ball over the line. A long corner saw capt Mel Podd pick up the ball just inside the D, and with her back to goal put in a welly of a hit powered by sheer frustration, finally found the mark to put the ladies 1-0 up. For a first team outing the ladies were very happy to take the win in a game that could have easily had a score of 5-0, were it not for the sterling defence work showed by Ely. Man of match went to junior Robyn Henry jones for her nonstop outstanding play all game. Jane Dryland took home the teddy. Next week sees the ladies at home at 11am against st ives.

Posted Posted in Ladies, Men

Dear members,

Due to change in availability of our club coach Adnan Zakir we are having to change the coaching nights this season for all members.

Training as of next week:

L1 & L2’s training will change to Tuesdays: 19:30 – 21:30 (starting on 11th September)

M1, M2, M3, L3 & L4’s training will change to Wednesdays: 19:00 – 21:00 (starting on 12th September)

I apologise in advance to any members who this adversely affects. By doing this we are able to maintain our international level coach within the club and help our club to continue to grow and develop.

Your hockey club needs YOU!

Posted Posted in Club News, Juniors, Ladies, Men

Are you interested in getting involved in coaching? Do you enjoy working with children/juniors? Can you spare an hour on Sunday mornings? Do you need to do some volunteering as part of your DofE award or sports course?

Then your hockey club needs YOU!!!

We are on the lookout for volunteers to help with coaching the junior teams on Sunday mornings. U8’s and U10s train from 10-11 and U14s from 11-12. If you could help with one or both sessions and were available every other week, once a month, just for tournaments or even every week then we would be delighted to have you involved. There is more information about the junior section on the club website here.

If you can give some time to help or would like to know more then please get in touch with Junior Coordinator, Claire McDonnell. The first junior session of the 2018-19 season will take place on Sunday 16th September.

For anyone interested we will also be hosting an England Hockey workshop called ‘Engaging Games for Children’ at the club on Sunday 7th October 1-4pm. The cost of the workshop is £48 but the committee have agreed to fund this for anyone helping with coaching so it wouldn’t cost a thing.

The workshop is designed for coaches/leaders/helpers that:

  • Deliver to children in any environment (clubs, schools, etc.)
  • Want for practical and up to date games to deliver to their players
  • Need ideas on how to coach games rather than basic drills
  • Want to share ideas and learn from other coaches

If you would like more information or would like to attend please get in touch as soon as possible so that we can book you a place. The deadline for bookings is Thursday 27th September or when the workshop is full. Places are first come first served and only secure when booked and paid for online. Participants must be 16 years + to attend.

Juniors 2018/19

Posted Posted in Juniors

Dear Juniors,

We hope you have enjoyed the summer holidays and are looking forward to the start of the new hockey season.

We now have dates and details for the 2018-19 season which will start on Sunday 16th September with training times and groups the same as last season.

10-11am       U8’s & U10’s
11-12noon   U12’s & U14’s

Age groups are aligned to academic school years (i.e. based on a player’s age on 1st September) as requested by England Hockey. Full details can be found on the club website here.

Again this season we will be entering teams at all age groups into regular tournaments with other Cambridgeshire clubs. If you look at the calendar on the club website you will see there are four dates for these throughout the season, including one which we will host at Newmarket on 11th November. We will also have a couple of friendly fixtures against Thetford HC as in previous years.

Junior membership will again be £60 for the season and will include a new club playing shirt for 2018-19 and socks. A junior membership form can be downloaded from the website here. Included on the membership form is the option to order a junior hoodie at an additional cost of £20. Please make sure all membership fees are paid by 30th September.

Further information on junior hockey is available in the Welcome Pack which can be downloaded from the website here.

We currently have space for new members so if you know of anyone who is keen to give hockey a go please feel free to pass on these details or share with them this poster.

Finally, we are always on the lookout for more volunteers to assist with coaching on Sundays, help out with teams at tournaments, organising kit orders etc. If you would be willing to get involved at all please do let us know, anytime you can give is much appreciated.

For anyone that might be interested in helping with coaching we will be hosting an England Hockey workshop called ‘Engaging Games for Children’ at the club on Sunday 7th October 1-4pm. The cost of the workshop is £48 but the club have agreed to fund this for anyone helping with junior coaching. Please see further details here and let me know if you would be interested in attending so I can let you know how to book a place.

We look forward to seeing you all on 16th September.

NHC Membership 2018/19

Posted Posted in Club News, Ladies, Men

Dear all,

Newmarket Hockey Club bids you a very warm welcome to the 2018/19 season!!

Training is well under way for both the mens and the ladies sections.  Please see the website for details of the changes to training, and we look forward to seeing you down there.

It’s now time for the boring paper-work and fees bit.

Membership Forms:
Please can all members, new and returning, complete a membership form.  This can be down-loaded from the club website: Membership Form
We must have a form for every player, new and returning, each year for insurance purposes, and to confirm that we have up to date emergency contact details on file for you.  You can scan or take a pic of your completed form and email it to me here, or return it to me with your subs.  I will bring some forms down with me to the training sessions.  Active non-players are also required to complete a form each year, eg:  Umpires and Coaches

Your subs come to me, in an envelope with your name on it please.  Subs must be paid by the 30th September, and you cannot play for the club after this date, unless you have spoken to me directly.

Cash or Cheques payable to ‘Newmarket Hockey Club’.

  • Seniors (18 and over) £100.00
  • Student (Over 18 and in full time education) £75.00
  • Juniors (Aged 13 to U18 yrs)  £55.00

Students:  Must provide a copy of their current student card to validate the reduced fees.
Goalkeepers:  Active Goalkeepers who provide their own complete goalkeeping kit will be exempt from subscription for the year, at the Club’s discretion.
New Players: All new players have 4 weeks to pay the relevant subscriptions, but cannot play league games until they have joined the Club.

New members who wish to play in the men’s or women’s teams will also be subject to a one-time sponsorship subsidised fee of £40 to cover the cost of kit. This amount should be added to the total subs fee due.  To order kit, please complete the kit form from the membership page of the Club website, and get this to Faye.

Players who do not pay their subscriptions on time will be subject to an additional £20 fee and will not be able to play for the club or train. We therefore urge all members to help us by paying on time. Seniors who wish to attend training on a regular basis but not play matches are still required to pay the full subscription fee.

I will at Training every week, but will not be at the ladies 1s and 2s evenings.  If those envelopes could please be handed to Di or Zoe for me.

If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to come and speak to me, message me or email me here.

Thanks and all the best for a cracking season!!
