Newmarket Hockey Club Open Day – Sunday 8th September 2013

Newmarket Hockey Club; one of the Town’s biggest and long standing sports clubs is having a free Open Day on Sunday 8th September at Newmarket Leisure Centre Astro turf. The club invites anyone to come along and give hockey a go or simply turn up and enjoy the fun activities, refreshments and stalls on offer.
Also in attendance will be representatives from England Hockey and the New Astley Club – anyone from the horse racing community is very welcome to attend.
If you were inspired by the Olympics – the club are also looking for their very own ‘Games Makers’ in the form of umpires, volunteers and coaches for the coming season. Past experience and qualifications is not essential as training will be provided-anyone interested in giving their time is encouraged to attend the event or contact the club.
The day kicks off at 11am where there will be an hour’s session just for juniors – activities and mini games. There will be hockey sticks available to borrow but participants are encouraged to bring shin pads and gum shields if they wish to join in.
Following this there will be some fun hockey related activities and competitions to join in with such as a hockey obstacle course, hockey hit speed gun tests, Beat The Keeper competition and Furthest Flick Competition.
Informal coaching and hints and tips sessions will be available to those who have not played before or wish to pick up a stick after a long break.
The afternoon will also play host to adult men’s, ladies’ and mixed friendly hockey matches, an opportunity for the club members to demonstrate their skills but also chance to involve anyone wishing to learn and play. The day is completely free but the club would greatly appreciate donations towards its development.
NHC has gone through a great deal of change over the years-growing in numbers and strength. Now having 2 men’s teams and 3 ladies teams they welcome any new players of all abilities. To find out more please go to or contact Di Thomas on or 07947 378 578.
