Week 8 Results – Battling Away Win for Ladies’ 1s

Newmarket Men’s 1s: 2-3 loss vs Norwich City Men’s 3s (Away) (Holden, Skelton) This game saw Town’s Men’s 1s play away at Taverham against Norwich city 3rd XI on a day that looked to be raining heavily, but luckily the gods held back and the game was set to be a classic (cough).  The game start with Town on the back with Norwich pushing high the pitch but with good defending from Harrington, Newnes, Jenkins and Wilson, Norwich found it hard to get the clear chances. Newmarket managed to absorb the pressure and playing on the counter attacks through the […]

Week 7 Results – Home Win for Ladies’ 3s

Newmarket Men’s 1s: 1-2 loss vs North Norfolk Men’s 1s (Home) (McTaggart) Newmarket’s 7th game of the season was against a side who were playing in the higher league of 2N last year, so Newmarket were expecting a tough game ahead. Newmarket started the game half-hearted and without regular centre back Newnes due to pebble dashing and were not the side from previous weeks. Newmarket also had a poor warm-up which left Town on back foot for the first 10 mins or so, leaving some players frustrated. A quick change in the backline eased the pressure of the back line […]

Week 6 Results – M2s Triumph at Home

Newmarket Men’s 1s: 4-5 loss vs Harleston Magpies Men’s 3s (Away) (Wilson 2, de Burgh, McTaggart) Newmarket travelled to Magpies expecting a keen contest on one of the region’s few water based astros, with October delivering typically autumnal weather fortunately there was no need to Magpies to water the pitch before the game! Magpies came out of the blocks quickly and took the lead after a few minutes when the forward reacted the quickest to deflect an optimistic cross past young keeper Seth Bailey deputising to veteran Martin McCourt. Newmarket were struggling to clear the ball from Magpies well organised […]

We have been really pleased with the turn out and commitment from you all so far and are pleased we now have the numbers and coaches available to organise you into 4 coaching groups most weeks; U14/12, U10, U8 and U6. This makes things easier for us and hopefully means you as players get more enjoyment and learning out of the session. I just wanted to remind you that there is no training the next two Sundays as we take a break for half term. Training […]

Week 5 Results – M1s Draw as Newmarket Struggle

Newmarket Men’s 1s: 1-1 draw vs I-ES Men’s 2s (Home) (McTaggart) Newmarket host league leaders I-ES in 3NE looking to put last week’s disappointment behind them. They welcomed back skipper Matthew Holden and new player Sam Smith, but lost Chris Leggett to a training injury and the early push back meant that Louie (not sure if intentional or just incompetence -L) Hrebeniak and Mike Skelton were also unavailable. Having made promising debuts in the last fortnight both Oscar Kenny and Ollie Trent were included in the 12 man squad. The game was keenly contested with chances at both ends, in the […]

Week 4 Results – Home Wins for L1s & M2s

Newmarket Men’s 1s: 2-7 loss vs Norwich Dragons Men’s 2s (Away) (McTaggart, Wilson) Newmarket made their second trip to Norwich in as many weeks, still short on numbers and with a bare eleven as Harry Bell had been delayed on British Rail. The team called up youngster Oscar Kenny who acquitted himself well throughout on his first eleven debut. Newmarket took the lead in the first minute, James McTaggart winning a penalty corner after a mazy dribble and reacting first to first home the rebound form the initial strike. Dragons came back at Newmarket strongly and equalised through a dubious […]

Week 3 Results – Comeback Victory for Men’s 1s #wolfpack

Newmarket Men’s 1s: 4-3 win vs Norwich City Men’s 4s (Away) (Bell 2, Wilson 2) With newlywed Captain Matthew Holden streaming his honeymoon live over Facebook, the team travelled up to Nelson County without their inspirational leader, although with Facetime’s help he watched most of the game. Holden wasn’t the only absentee from last week, Mark Pears & Jonny Bunker were working, James McTaggart completing another 192 hour working week in our beloved NHS and Sam Smith healing after last week split lip on debut. Town welcomed back Michael Skelton for his first start of the season and called up […]

Week 2 Results – Wins for M1s, L2s & L3s

Newmarket Ladies’ 1s vs Wisbech Ladies’ 2s: 0-2 win to Wisbech Newmarket had their first home game of the season against Wisbech 2s at 2pm. Playing a four, four, two formation Newmarket were playing a strong game. Newmarket then fought back but unfortunately were unable to score goals in response. By the end of the first half the score was Newmarket 0, Wisbech 1. In the second half, Newmarket were more determined to get back into the […]

With the sun shining down on the team (and a couple of Dick of the Day worthy nominations being gained for asking why there was so many planes flying on an RAF base), everyone knew things were going to be difficult from the previous […]
